On Thursday, August 4, 2022, at around 1:30 p.m., a devastating car crash occurred at a busy intersection in the Windsor Hills area of Los Angeles. The impact left six people dead and eight others injured in one of the city’s most horrific traffic accidents in recent memory.
What Happened?
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash took place at the intersection of La Brea Avenue and Slauson Avenue. A speeding black Mercedes-Benz allegedly ran a red light, slamming into several vehicles at high speed. Multiple cars erupted in flames, sending up black smoke that could be seen from a distance.
Victims Identified
Among the six deaths were a young pregnant woman, her unborn child, and her infant son. Authorities identified the pregnant woman as 23-year-old Asherey Ryan. She was traveling with her 11-month-old son, Alonzo Quintero, and her boyfriend, Reynold Lester, when their car was hit. All three were killed on impact. Reynold worked with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.
Suspect and Investigation
The driver of the Mercedes-Benz, identified as 37-year-old Nicole Linton, was hospitalized with moderate injuries. Officials stated that she was a nurse from Texas and is now facing multiple vehicular manslaughter charges. Investigators believe Linton was speeding at nearly 100 miles per hour just before the crash.
Aftermath and Community Response
Eight people were injured and transported to local hospitals, including Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. Two of the injured were children. The tragic incident has sparked renewed discussions about road safety in high-traffic areas of Los Angeles, and memorials have been set up at the crash site in remembrance of the victims.
