Employment Lawyer in Encino

Encino is a neighborhood in the City of Los Angeles, south of the 101. An Encino employment lawyer applies both the Labor Code and the City of Los Angeles wage ordinances. As of July 1, 2026, work performed in Los Angeles, including Encino, is generally owed at least $18.42 an hour.

That city rate does not shrink overtime. Non-exempt employees still earn time-and-a-half after 8 hours in a day or 40 in a week, and double time after 12 hours in a day, calculated on the regular rate of pay. A higher base rate makes an unpaid overtime hour more expensive for the employer, not less.

Medical offices and Ventura Boulevard

Encino’s jobs cluster in medical practices, Encino Hospital Medical Center, and professional offices along Ventura Boulevard. The patterns we see there:

  • Medical-office staff paid a salary that does not meet an exemption. A title such as “office manager” or “coordinator” does not by itself make someone exempt from overtime. The salary must meet the exemption floor and the duties must be exempt.
  • Unpaid charting and closing. Time spent finishing notes, sterilization, or closing a clinic after the last patient is hours worked.
  • Disability and pregnancy leave in clinics that are too small to have an HR department and that deny a schedule change or a leave without a real interactive process.
  • Commissioned patient-coordinators and sales roles whose draws are recouped, or whose commission plan is oral and then disputed after termination. California requires a written commission contract.

Encino is Los Angeles, not Burbank

Employees sometimes live in Encino and work in Burbank or Glendale, or the reverse. The ordinance follows the workplace. Hours worked at an Encino office are Los Angeles hours. Hours worked at a Burbank studio are not, unless a different law covers that job. Write down the address where you clocked in.

Wage claims can be filed at the Labor Commissioner’s Van Nuys office, 6150 Van Nuys Blvd., Room 206. Lawsuits are filed in Los Angeles Superior Court. FEHA harassment and discrimination claims generally require a filing with the Civil Rights Department before a lawsuit, and that deadline is not the same as the wage-claim deadline.
