Studio City is a neighborhood in the City of Los Angeles, between Sherman Oaks and Hollywood, along the 101. A Studio City employment lawyer treats hours worked here as Los Angeles hours. The city minimum wage is $18.42 an hour as of July 1, 2026. State overtime still starts after 8 hours in a day and 40 in a week for non-exempt employees.
Stages, restaurants, and Ventura Boulevard
Studio City combines production work on its studio lots with restaurants and small businesses on Ventura Boulevard and Laurel Canyon. The claims we see:
- Production days that run past twelve hours without double time, or with a meal break that was “on the clock” because no one was relieved.
- Prep and wrap that was required and unpaid. If you could not leave, it is hours worked.
- Restaurant staff whose managers share the tip pool, or who are sent home after an hour and are not paid reporting time.
- Harassment on set or in a small restaurant where the schedule is controlled by the person accused. Retaliation for reporting it can be a separate FEHA and Labor Code claim.
Minors working in entertainment need work permits. Those permits are handled at the Labor Commissioner’s Van Nuys office. Wage claims for adult employees in Studio City go to that same DLSE district, at 6150 Van Nuys Blvd., Room 206. Details are on the DLSE district office list.
Studio City is not Burbank
The studios in Burbank are a short drive away, and crews move between them. Burbank is a different city and does not use the Los Angeles minimum wage for ordinary private employment. If your call sheet puts you in Studio City one day and Burbank the next, the local wage can change with the location. Keep the call sheet. It is the record of where the hour was worked.
